A typical workshop begins with some fun warm up exercises. Warming up our minds and our bodies is essential when playing a musical instrument.
Breathing is a very important part of brass playing so Les takes everybody through a series of exercises to improve technique. He also makes another essential part of brass playing, mouthpiece buzzing, a fun activity too.
All the things that we may forget to do or think are boring when practicing our instruments, Les brings to life and makes them enjoyable!
On many occasions participants can play a solo in the workshop.
One thing that will help your confidence and general playing is to perform to other people. It can be a nerve-racking experience at first but it is certainly rewarding.
Whether you've been playing 2 weeks or 20 year Les will listen and be able to offer tips and support to help you improve your playing in a completely relaxed environment.
Les is always ready to answer any general questions you may have for him during the workshop.
There is always time for a chat afterwards so if you have a specific question then you can speak to Les and he will be more than happy to offer advice.
Don't forget, you can even purchase a CD and there is always time to sign it!

"Thanks again for getting Les here. I was over the moon to hear how many children he had reached. And it was such a fantastic concert. I am now a fan of the tuba. Who would have thought of ever hearing Hora Staccato played by this normally ungainly instrument. Wonderful!"
Greg Leong, Director, Burnie Arts and Function Centre, Tasmania
